Is it normal if steam comes out of your hair after straightening?

Its kinda my first time with straighteners, so i bought the Sedu Revolution 1 inch, and got it straightened for the first time at a hair salon.... I noticed that there was steam coming out, she put the temperature at 450 when i specifically told her 350... But when i washed my hair like 3 days later my hair was fine... I also bought a hair protectent, which she also used, its the Chi Spray, its red... So is it bad if steam comes out of my hair??
